A Toggl alternative that tracks attendance and leave too

Toggl Track is one of the best-known timers: start a timer, tag it to a project, and see where the hours went, with no screenshots and no surveillance. Tickin is a time tracking tool built the other way round: people clock in for the day from Slack, and that one record drives hours, attendance, leave and, on the Growth plan, payroll. New Toggl sign-ups now get a combined product called Toggl; this page compares its time tracking.

In short

Choose Toggl Track if you want fast project timers, detailed time reports and client work, and attendance or leave are handled elsewhere. Choose Tickin if you want working hours, attendance and leave in one Slack-based record, free for up to 10 employees.

What Toggl Track is great at

Toggl Track makes project timing fast and friendly. Timers start in a click or from Slack, the desktop app can keep a timeline of apps and sites that only the user sees, and reports break hours down by project, client and tag. It states plainly that it takes no screenshots and does no surveillance, which makes it easy to introduce.

Where Tickin is different

Tickin tracks the working day rather than individual timers. People clock in with /tickin start and out with /tickin end in Slack, from the browser or the optional desktop app (Microsoft Teams on the Scale plan), breaks are deducted, and overtime and forgotten clock-outs are handled for you. Because the same record holds attendance and leave, you can see who started late, who is on leave and how many hours each person worked against their target.

Pricing for a small team

Toggl Track is free for up to 3 users, and paid plans start at $9 per user a month billed annually ($12 monthly), with timesheet approvals on Premium. Tickin is free for up to 10 employees and Starter is $2 per employee a month. For project billing, Tickin's projects and billable rates are on Scale at $6.

Which should you choose

If your main question is "where do our project hours go?" and you bill clients by tracked time, Toggl Track is a polished choice. If your question is "who worked, when, and who was off?" and you want it answered inside Slack, with leave and payroll alongside, Tickin fits better.

Toggl Track takes none. Tickin takes none unless you buy the optional Desktop App add-on and an admin turns monitoring on.
Which is cheaper for a team of 8?
Tickin is free for up to 10 employees. Toggl Track is free for up to 3 users, then from $9 per user a month billed annually.
Can I track time per project in Tickin?
Yes, on the Scale plan: people log time to projects and tasks, it is approved, and billable projects get one hourly bill rate. Tickin does not create invoices.
