Leave management for remote teams across timezones
On a remote team you cannot see an empty desk. Someone is on leave, someone else is working from home in another city, and the only way to find out is to ask. Tickin gives remote teams one leave record that everyone reaches from the chat they already use: people request time off in Slack or the web (Microsoft Teams on the Scale plan), approvers decide with one tap, and every morning the team gets a report of who is out.
One place to ask, wherever people are
Requests come from Slack, the web portal or, on the Scale plan, Microsoft Teams. Nobody needs a VPN, another login or a form buried in a wiki. The request lands with the approver in the same chat, with Approve and Decline buttons, and the requester hears back automatically.
Who is out, posted every morning
Each working day Tickin posts a Daily Leave and WFH report to Slack or Microsoft Teams showing who is on leave, who is on a half day and who is working from home. The report follows your workspace timezone, so a distributed team reads the same list at the start of the day instead of piecing it together from status emojis.
Approvals that do not wait for a time zone
Approvers decide from wherever they are, on desktop or the Slack mobile app, and every decision is logged with who made it and when. On Growth and Scale, a request goes to the employee's team lead first and then to an admin, so a lead in one timezone and an admin in another each see only the step that is theirs.
Leave and remote working in one record
Work From Home is a leave type of its own, so remote days are recorded alongside annual, sick and custom leave instead of in a separate sheet. Approved leave counts against required hours automatically, and the attendance dashboard shows who is on leave or working from home next to who is clocked in.
Public holidays without a spreadsheet
Public holidays are part of the record, so they do not count as absences and late-arrival alerts skip them. Each workspace runs on one timezone and one holiday calendar; a team spread across several countries with different holiday calendars may need a tool built around per-country calendars.
Frequently asked questions
- Can remote employees request leave from their phone?
- Yes. They can request leave from the Slack mobile app or the web portal in a mobile browser. Tickin does not have its own native phone app.
- How do we see who is out on a remote team?
- Tickin posts a Daily Leave and WFH report to Slack or Microsoft Teams every working day, in your workspace timezone, and the web dashboard shows who is on leave or working from home next to who is clocked in.
- Does Tickin work for teams in different countries?
- It works for distributed teams, with one timezone and one holiday calendar per workspace. If people in different countries need separate public holiday calendars, check that your setup fits before you roll it out.
- Is Microsoft Teams supported?
- Yes, on the Scale plan: requests, approvals and the related notifications work in Microsoft Teams. Slack and the web portal work on every plan.
